Missing Md. woman found in police custody

WASHINGTON — A Gaithersburg woman who was reported missing last month has been found — in custody.

The Montgomery County police say that Elizabeth “Betty” Jean Queen was reported missing on Jan. 9, and that on Thursday, Queen’s sister made a public statement in hopes that someone would see Queen’s picture and know something about where she was.

Someone did — a correctional officer, who recognized the woman in the photo as someone who was in the Central Processing Unit under the name Jane Smith.

That was the name Queen gave police when she was arrested Dec. 30 after a report of a trespasser at a house on Broadbirch Drive, in Silver Spring. She has been charged with second-degree assault and disorderly conduct.

She had recently been taken to a hospital for treatment of an unknown condition and was found there Sunday evening.
