WVU, Virginia Tech agree on sports competitions

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia and Virginia Tech will play each other in basketball, soccer, baseball and other common varsity sports over the next several years.

The two schools announced Wednesday they will schedule as many nonconference games as possible. The series will be called the Black Diamond Challenge.

Games will include a men’s basketball home-and-home series through the 2017-2018 season, with one game per season, and a baseball home-and-home series for the next two seasons.

The schools say in a news release that they also are discussing a women’s soccer home-and-home series that could start in 2017.

Three football games were previously scheduled, including a 2017 game at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland. The schools say there won’t be any additions to the football schedule.
