Edmonds helps propel Fordham over Lehigh 48-27

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) — Chase Edmonds ran for five touchdowns as Fordham defended its top conference standing with a 48-27 victory over Lehigh on Saturday.

Edmonds — who set a school record for freshmen with 231 yards in Fordham’s 54-7 victory over Rhode Island earlier this season — had 197 yards on 32 carries for the Rams (7-1, 3-0 Patriot League). Mike Nebrich finished with 20-of-27 passing for 292 yards, including a 51-yard touchdown pass to Dan Light in the second quarter. Michael Marando kicked two field goals.

Edmonds had four rushing touchdowns from short yardage in the first half and the Rams led 35-14 at the break. He struck again early in the third quarter, this time on a 38-yard scoring run to extend Fordham’s advantage, 42-14.

Fordham outplayed Lehigh 588 to 317 yards in total offense.

Nick Shafnisky threw for 127 yards and three touchdowns for the Mountain Hawks (1-6, 0-2).
