Clemson RB Zac Brooks has surgery

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Clemson running back Zac Brooks had surgery on the foot he injured earlier this month.

Tigers coach Dabo Swinney had previously said Brooks would miss the season and return next fall as a redshirt junior. Brooks was the team’s leading returning rusher and was expected to be a significant part of the 16th-ranked Tigers’ offense this season.

Swinney also said Wednesday that reserve offensive lineman Oliver Jones tore an anterior cruciate ligament at practice Tuesday and will also miss this season. It’s the second time Jones, a third-year sophomore, has torn an ACL playing football.

Jones’ loss is another blow to Clemson’s offensive line depth. Earlier this month, lineman Shaq Anthony decided to transfer.

The Tigers open the season Saturday at No. 12 Georgia.
