Names released in fatal Anne Arundel car crash

GLEN BURNIE, Md. – Police have released the names of the four people, including a child, killed in a car crash Sunday afternoon in Glen Burnie.

The driver of the first car, Joseph Allen Oliver Jr, 30, of Glen Burnie and passenger Crystal Jean Benton, 18, of Laurel both suffered fatal injuries.

Brittney Marie Ziegler, 21, of Pasadena, died while driving the second vehicle, a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am. Ziegler was driving with Lilly Renee Gross, age 3, who also died.

Police responded to the accident around 1:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Preliminary investigation finds that the driver of the first vehicle, Joseph Allen Oliver Jr., was traveling northbound on Marley Neck Boulevard when he attempted to pass traffic in a no passing zone.

While in the incorrect lane, Oliver Jr.’s car struck the car driven by Ziegler head-on.

There were no other passengers in either vehicle.

No determination has been made on whether drugs or alcohol played a factor, but excessive speed by the first vehicle is considered to be a major contributing factor.
