For men, language of love is less talking

WASHINGTON – Men, if you wanna get the girl, talk less and lower your voice.

That masculine, deep voice is what gets the ladies’ attention, according to new research published in the journal PLOS ONE.

Canadian researchers collaborating with University of California students played 60 voices for the volunteer group of participants. They studied which type of voices, words used and the amount of words were considered most attractive to the respective sexes.

Men preferred a breathy voice — think Marilyn Monroe over the creaky tones of Kim Kardasian. That breathy delivery was thought to be more youthful and healthy while the creaky tones conjured up images of a smoker, someone who is sick or tired.

Because women talk more, they were attracted to a man who talked less and with a deeper tone — think George Clooney.

Exotic sounding voices and accents were very attractive to both sexes, but mostly people were drawn to others that sounded a lot like them. The study says our voice is a kind of identity and people of similar tone and accents gave off a sense of community and belonging.
