WASHINGTON — A 46-year-old man was arrested for possession of cocaine in Florida Sunday, but said he did not know that the drug was illegal.

Police responded to a complaint of three people who wandered on the property of a Key West resort, according to Gawker.com.

When police spotted the three men, Guy Lanchester attempted to hide the bag of cocaine in a flower pot.

Less than a gram of cocaine was in the bag police recovered.

When questioned by police as to why he had cocaine, Lanchester replied, “I don’t understand … I thought cocaine wasn’t illegal in Florida,” Gawker reports.

Lanchester is being held without bond with cocaine possession and tampering with evidence charges, according to the Miami NBC affiliate.
