Family snow day video sparks attention

WASHINGTON — With six more weeks of winter and leftover snow on the ground, are more snow days expected?

The announcement of “no school” may bring joy to students’ faces who get the day(s) off, but parents have a slightly different reaction.

When parents Penn and Kim Dean Holderness found out about a snow day on Feb. 12, they took to the camera and made a video to share what a typical snow day is like for them and their family.

The humorous video, creating Internet buzz, features a song written and sung by the parents and their two kids depicting their snow day activities in chronological order.

Penn, former TV host, reporter and news anchor, is a managing partner and creative director of a video production firm — Greenroom — in Raleigh, N.C. Along with the video, he asks families how they really feel about snow days on his blog.
