WASHINGTON — Maybe the buses and Metro trains in D.C. would be a little more crowded if not for those red and yellow bikes with the fat tires.
Capital Bikeshare riders are choosing bikes over Metro rail and buses in the city according to a recent survey, reports the DCist.
Conducted by Dr. Susan Shaheen and Dr. Elliot Martin of UC Berkeley’s Transportation Sustainability Research Center, more than 4,800 Capital Bikeshare members in D.C. participated in the survey.
Forty-seven percent of respondents said Bikeshare has reduced their use of Metro rail. Thirty-nine percent say they’re on the bike instead of a bus.
Capital Bikeshare now has more than 300 docking stations with 2,500 bicycles around the D.C. area.
Much has been said and written lately about conflict between cars and bikes in D.C. Traffic has increased in the city and so has the number of bikes and bike lanes on city streets.
