WASHINGTON – D.C. is home to more than just political gridlock.
D.C. drivers ranked the worst out of 200 of the nation’s biggest cities, according to a new survey from Allstate Insurance Co.
The average D.C. driver will experience a collision every 4.8 years, according the study’s data.
For some, the results are not surprising. Virginia resident Nick Wheeler blames the ranking not only on drivers from D.C., but also drivers from Maryland and Virginia who are navigating the city’s roads.
“Whenever there’s a little gap, the person next to you tries to swoop in and get the extra five feet every single time,” he says.
Baltimore drivers got the second-worst ranking, the survey said. They experience a car accident every 5.4 years. Nationally, drivers get into a collision every 10 years, according to the study.
“God knows we can’t be any worse than New York,” said D.C. resident Thomas Wise.
The Allstate survey said otherwise. New York City ranked 172 out of 200.
The survey placed Fort Collins, Co., at the No. 1 spot for having the best drivers.
