WASHINGTON - Police are out keeping dangerous drivers away from pedestrians in a county with a recent rash of fatalities.
Five pedestrians have been killed in Montgomery County since the beginning of the year, compared to a total of six for all of 2012.
Beginning this week, Montgomery County Police will be doing pedestrian stings at locations where accidents are likely to happen.
Captain Thomas Didone directs the Traffic Safety Division. He says the sting is an annual event, unrelated to the spike in pedestrian fatalities.
Officers will target parts of Gaithersburg, Aspen Hill and Wheaton among other areas throughout the summer, Didone says.
