WASHINGTON - Beyonce isn't the only one who wants to give you an upgrade.
Nilou Motamed, features editor for Travel + Leisure Magazine recently offered NBC's "TODAY" show viewers tips on how to receive free travel upgrades.
Motamed suggests checking into a hotel at a later time, since hotel employees are more likely to offer an upgrade if it looks like a better room will sit empty overnight. Staying at a new hotel also can be a bonus. New hotels are more likely to strive to impress customers.
When selecting a frequent flier program, Motamed says consider choosing an airline that isn't headquartered in your city since there will be fewer elite passengers to compete with for an upgrade.
