WASHINGTON - One of the most popular songs on radio in 2012 took a very different path to the top - one that didn't involve the support of a major record label.
In Billboard's "Ross on Radio: Songs That Made A Difference in 2012," PSY's "Gangnam Style" didn't become a radio hit until it had already registered tens of thousands of YouTube views.
On Friday, "Gangnam Style" got its billionth view.
"(It) may be the first song that exists on the radio entirely as a souvenir of the time spent enjoying it elsewhere," says Sean Ross, a Billboard reporter.
The complete Billboard list includes nine songs:
1. PSY, "Gangnam Style" 2. Ellie Goulding, "Lights" 3. Gotye, "Somebody That I Used to Know" 4. The Lumineers, "Ho Hey" 5. Ed Sheeran, "The A Team" 6. Kacey Musgraves, "Merry Go Round" 7. David Guetta & Usher, "Without You" 8. Ne-You, "Let Me Love You (Until You Learn to Love Yourself)" 9. Kanye West, Big Sean, Pusha-T, 2 Chainz, "Mercy"
