Braves extend qualifying offer to RHP Santana

ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Braves made a $15.3 million qualifying offer to right-handed pitcher Ervin Santana on Monday.

Santana, who will turn 32 next month, went 14-10 with a 3.95 ERA in 31 starts for the Braves. He was hastily signed during spring training to a $14.1 million, one-year deal after the Braves lost Kris Medlen and Brandon Beachy to season-ending injuries.

Santana has until Nov. 10 to accept. If he signs with another major league team before June 8, the Braves would receive a compensatory draft pick at the end of the first round of next year’s amateur draft.

In 10 major league seasons, Santana has a 119-100 record with a 4.17 ERA. He spent eight seasons with the Los Angeles Angels and one with the Kansas City Royals.
