Blue Jays activate Encarnacion from disabled list

TORONTO (AP) — The Toronto Blue Jays have activated slugger Edwin Encarnacion from the 15-day disabled list and sent outfielder Anthony Gose to the minors.

The Blue Jays made the moves before Friday night’s game at the Chicago White Sox.

Encarnacion missed more than a month because of a strained right quadriceps muscle. The first baseman and designated hitter just completed a rehab stint with Triple-A Buffalo and hit a grand slam in his first game.

Encarnacion is a two-time All-Star and is hitting .277 with 26 home runs and 70 RBIs this season.

The Blue Jays have lost three in a row and dropped back in the AL wild-card race. First baseman Adam Lind recently came off the DL while third baseman Brett Lawrie is out until at least September because of a strained left oblique.

Gose is hitting .234 with nine RBIs and 14 stolen bases in 69 games.
