FREDERICK, Md. (AP) — The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office says authorities seized more than $100,000 worth of synthetic marijuana from three gas stations and the Thurmont home of the station owners.
The agency said Wednesday that local, state and federal law enforcement agencies participated in an investigation that culminated in a raid Tuesday.
The gas stations are in Frederick, Jefferson and Thurmont.
The state’s attorney’s office says the packages marketed as “spice” and “potpourri” contained vegetable matter treated with the chemical compound XLR11. The compound was outlawed by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration last year because it mimics the effects of marijuana.
Zafar Iqbal (zah-FAR’ IK’-bahl) and his wife Khushnood (KOOSH’-nood) face multiple drug charges.
Their defense attorney Richard Bricken declined to comment on the allegations but said the Iqbals are very nice people.
