Widow seeks closure after ex-Marine killed in hit-and-run (Video)

Wednesday - 9/4/2013, 12:57pm  ET

WASHINGTON - The wife of a former Marine struck and killed in a hit-and-run collision Saturday says the driver has taken way her "best friend."

Prince George's County police say it appears 27-year-old Eric Derron Bridgett, of Clinton, Md., was trying to cross Kirby Road around 2:30 a.m. when a passing vehicle struck him and drove off.

Police say Bridgett, who was found lying on the side of the road and was pronounced dead at the scene, was not in a crosswalk when he was struck.

Bridgett's wife, Brandi, tells ABC7 her husband was killed near a restaurant where he worked as a cook. She says he served in the Marines for six years and two tours of duty, and helped with earthquake relief in Haiti.

Bridgett was a father of three. Brandi Bridgett tells ABC7 the driver needs to come forward.

"They got to go home last night," she says. "They haven't been sitting here with this feeling on the inside of unsettledness, and I just need some peace."

Anyone with information about the incident can call police at 301-731-4422. Those who want to remain anonymous can call Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS or text "PGPD" plus a message to CRIMES (274637). Tips also can be submitted online here.
