Coast Guard helps leaky boat off Virginia coast

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (AP) — The Coast Guard says it has assisted a recreational fishing boat that took on water in the Atlantic Ocean.

The 46-foot vessel with six adults and two children aboard was about 45 miles east of Cape Henry when the operator reported the incident at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The Coast Guard says it launched a response boat from Station Little Creek in Virginia Beach. A Coast Guard helicopter and airplane returning from an unrelated rescue also responded. The helicopter lowered a pump to the fishing boat and the leak was eventually stopped before the vessel was escorted to Rudee Inlet in Virginia Beach.
