100s of bikers crossing Md., Va. for 9-11 event

WASHINGTON — The “9-11” motorcycle ride, designed to remember those who died in the September 11 terrorist attacks, takes place August 15 and 16.

If you’re planning to ride, or if you’re wondering why there’s so many motorcycles on the road, here are the routes below.

August 15:

— The bikers should arrive in Leesburg between 1:45 p.m. and 2:15 p.m., then will head for the Dulles Greenway.

They will follow the Greenway to the Toll Road to I-66. From there, the riders will take I-66 to Rt. 110, to the Doubletree Hotel near the Pentagon.

August 16:

— The bikers will leave the North parking lot of the Pentagon around 7:15 a.m. and travel across the 14th Street bridge.

From there, they’ll ride around the National Mall before heading to the BW Parkway. From the BW Parkway, the bikers will venture to I-895, through the Harbor Tunnel and exit North on I-95 from Baltimore.

The commemorative ride is organized by America’s 911 Foundation to support emergency responders and honor victims of the attacks.
