WASHINGTON — The goodness that is Girl Scout cookie season often excludes people with gluten-free diets. But this year, thanks to ABC Bakers, the standard lineup of Thin Mints and Tagalongs will include Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Shortbread Cookies.
The cookies will be 100 percent gluten free, meaning they will be made with rice and tapioca flours and cane sugars. The bite-sized snacks will have real chocolate chips and real butter, though.
Only certain test markets are offering the cookies, but, luckily, Central Maryland is one of them. That means that those who live in Baltimore City, Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford or Howard counties will get to try out the new treat– or have to pick up some extras for friends in neighboring counties.
