Metro bus driver killed after being pinned by her bus

WASHINGTON – A Metro bus driver has died after she was pinned against a wall by her bus.

The incident happened just after 3:30 Monday afternoon at the White Oak Shopping Center in Silver Spring.

A spokeswoman for Metro says the driver, Thomasine Maria Smith, age 47, was standing in between the bus and the wall when the bus started to roll and trapped her.

Police say Smith tried to engage the brake by reaching through the driver’s window before she was pinned.

The bus wasn’t in service and no one was on board when it happened.

Metro Transit Police are investigating. Anyone with additional information should call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.
