Toddler shot in SE, police search for man in connection

WASHINGTON – A 3-year-old is in the hospital after a shooting in Southeast D.C. Thursday night.

The Metropolitan Police Department says officers were called to the 2400 block of Elvans Road SE just after 6 p.m.

Police say the girl was hit in the leg by a stray bullet as she played on the balcony of an apartment. She was taken to Children’s Hospital with injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening.

Investigators were trying to determine what prompted the gunfire, but do not believe the girl or the apartment were targeted. They were looking for a black male with a light complexion and long dreadlocks wearing black jeans and a black Helly Hansen jacket with white stripes in connection to the shooting.

Police also were looking for a burgundy colored minivan.
