WASHINGTON – Residents in the D.C. region will go without a white Christmas this year, despite light snowfall on Christmas Eve.
A mix of rain, sleet, and snow swept across the D.C. region Saturday afternoon with accumulation up to two inches in suburban areas north and west of the District. Weather advisories were issued in the affected areas.
“Christmas Day actually is going to be a pretty nice day across the area with a good deal of sunshine with high’s into the 40s,” says WJLA Meteorologist Mike Stinneford.
Parts of western Maryland could see snow, Stinneford says.
There is a chance of rainfall Tuesday evening.
The region is expected to see another storm mix of rain, sleet, and snow Wednesday afternoon, which could turn into mainly sleet and snow Thursday morning.
This year will be more of a “normal” snowfall winter for the region, Stinneford says.
“Anywhere from about 12 to 14 inches of snow at the Reagan Airport area,” he says. “As we get further north and west toward Dulles you’re talking about closer to 22 inches to 24 inches of snow.”
