Plenty of great music events coming to D.C.

WASHINGTON – Looking to blow off some Sandy-induced steam? There are plenty of notable music events to help you unwind over the weekend.

This weekend’s top music picks include folk, funk, a dance party and metal.

Friday

Dethklok brings its unique brand of metal to the Fillmore Silver Spring. Dethklok started out as a virtual band featured in Adult Swim’s television show, Metalocalypse. The real-life version of the band first toured in 2007, and has released three albums.

Saturday

Jonathan Edwards takes the stage at Wolf Trap. Edwards is best known for his Vietnam protest song, “Sunshine (Go Away Today).” His solo acoustic performances feature great storytelling and masterful singing.

Soulive and Lettuce bring soul, jazz and funk to the 9:30 Club.

Soulive’s catalog includes an album of Beatles covers, and Lettuce has been cranking out old-school funk for 20 years.

The Black Cat welcomes rock band RNDM, which features songwriter Joesph Arthur and Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam.

DC9’s website describes the Fez and Moustache Party as “a dose of Romani rock, twisted Klezmer, Slavic soul and Balkan beats.”

The Fez and Moustache Party promises to be a fun and unusual night of DJ sets.

Sunday

Shiny Toy Guns are scheduled to perform at the Rock N Roll Hotel. The band is known for its synth-infused rock and strong female lead, Carah Faye Charnow.

Trixie Whitley brings her powerful songwriting skills to the stage at Jammin Java. Whitley has performed in iconic producer Daniel Lanois’s band, Black Dub.

Chris Isaak performs at the Warner Theatre. Isaak’s latest album features covers of Sun Records legends such as Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis.
