WASHINGTON – Police are investigating allegations of sexual assault and a cover-up at the D.C. Jail.

Multiple sources tell WTOP a male inmate says he was taken from his cell by a male corrections officer and sodomized at a location in the jail unsupervised by surveillance cameras. According to law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation, the inmate says a second corrections officer witnessed the assault but did not report it.

The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss the investigation, say a third corrections officer learned of the incident and reported it to his supervisors.

Sylvia Lane, a spokesperson for the D.C. Department of Corrections, confirmed an ongoing investigation.

“Please be advised that currently there is an alleged incident under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department,” Lane says.

The Metropolitan Police Department investigates any allegations of sexual assault inside the jail. MPD spokesperson Gwendolyn Crump says the department is “investigating allegations of a sexual assault on an inmate by a guard.”
