WASHINGTON - There's a cool breeze in the air, the slightest hint of changing color on the trees and the United States Sailboat Show is getting ready to open for the 43rd year in Annapolis.
Organizers say the Sailboat Show is the oldest and largest new in-water boat show in the world. It will be followed by the Power Boat Show three days later.
Annapolis is considered one of the world's sailing capitols and is expecting tens of thousands of boating enthusiasts from all over the world. The city dock of Annapolis will be filled with extra floating docks to accommodate the array of vessels.
Visitors can look inside boats they could only dream of and get deals on parts for the boats they dream of getting back in the water.
There is parking at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium with shuttle bus service running to and from the show. Attendees can also park at Eastport Elementary school.
Traffic on Route 50 will likely be congested, especially closer to the stadium exit which is Rowe Blvd. The elementary school can be a good alternative if drivers take the back route from Aris T Allen Boulevard and Forest Drive but they should be prepared to walk from Eastport to the city dock. Eastport streets can also get congested.
The sailboat show runs Oct. 4 to 8 and the Power Boat Show is Oct. 11 to 14.
