WASHINGTON – The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors will be asked Wednesday to conduct an investigation into the actions of one of its own members.
Board Chairman Scott York, R-At-Large, will ask the board for an internal investigation of Eugene Delgaudio, R-Sterling.
A former aide of Delgaudio’s has alleged that he asked her to make dozens of calls to potential political donors on a county phone and on county time.
The allegations were first forwarded to Loudoun County Commonwealth Attorney Jim Plowman. Plowman referred the case to the office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney in Arlington County for an independent review earlier this year.
The Arlington Commonwealth’s Attorney recommended no criminal charges in a report last April. But York says an internal investigation is necessary to maintain the integrity of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors.
Delgaudio, meanwhile, has issued a statement on his website saying the fundraising was for a local boys football league and not for his political activities. He accuses The Washington Post, which first reported the allegations, of being in attack mode, something he says is “standard fare for liberals who hate conservatives.”
In announcing his plans to ask for the internal probe, York says no one in Loudoun County has yet to be contacted by the FBI. News reports have said the bureau was looking into the allegations against Delgaudio.
