WASHINGTON - A Virginia woman and her family dog are dead following a car crash late Saturday night, and another Virginia woman has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and maiming by DUI.
The crash occurred shortly before 10:30 p.m. June 9 near the intersection of Dumfries and Brentsville roads in Manassas.
Prince William County police say Lori Love Shipe, 52, of Warrenton was driving a 1999 Lexus RX300, traveling northbound on Dumfries Road, when she allegedly ran a red light and struck a 2008 Ford Focus that had the green light and was trying to make a left turn onto Dumfries Road.
The Focus then crashed into a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta, driving by a 33-year-old woman from Manassas Park.
Shipe and the Jetta's driver were not hurt in the crash.
Judith Ann Meyer, 57, of Powhatan, was a passenger in the Focus. She died at the hospital.
The driver, identified as a 58-year-old man from Powhatan, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
A family dog in the Focus was found with severe injuries. Animal Control responded, however, the dog died from the injuries while being taken to an area animal hospital.
