Man hospitalized after police shooting in Fairfax Co.

WASHINGTON – A 61-year-old man who refused to drop his knife when police officers arrived was taken to a hospital on Monday after being shot.

Fairfax County police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell says police arrived at a Mount Vernon apartment to serve a warrant for destruction of property when they encountered the man.

Police shot the man in the upper body when he refused to drop his weapon.

Four officers were involved in the shooting. It has not yet been determined how many will be placed on routine administrative leave during the larger investigation.

The victim’s condition is unknown at this time.
