Hero Dogs, Inc.

Hero Dogs raises and trains service dogs and places them free of charge with our nation’s Veterans to improve quality of life and restore independence. As a volunteer driven nonprofit organization, we are passionate about healing Veterans through a bond with a service dog.

Veterans are individuals who, for the good of others and the betterment of society, often sacrifice some of their natural abilities. Most service members were accustomed to a physically active and demanding lifestyle prior to becoming disabled. We believe, as citizens of a grateful nation, we are obligated to try to restore the former independence and ability of our Veterans. A well-trained and dedicated service dog is one path to this goal. Hero Dogs are specifically trained to perform tasks that mitigate a Veteran’s disability.

Military Veterans, because of their training, experience, and sense of esprit-de- corps, are well suited to partnering with a service dog. Because of their intelligence, sense of duty, and unconditional love, dogs are uniquely suited to help Veterans heal by providing a renewed sense of freedom and purpose. We work with Veterans who have served in any era, received an honorable discharge, and have a disabling medical condition.

Beginning with an 8-week old puppy and ending with an exceptionally trained service dog, the Hero Dogs model takes approximately three years to complete. Along the way, we educate thousands of people on the purpose, function, and benefits service dogs provide to our Veterans.
