LAS VEGAS (AP) — One of the newest names on the Las Vegas Strip is laying off staff and cutting restaurant hours less than two months after opening
Officials with the SLS Las Vegas casino-hotel didn’t provide a number of layoffs but said when the hotel opened Aug. 23 that it hired about 3,400 people.
A statement from property owner SBE company says the layoffs weren’t specific to any department at the 1,600-room property.
The news doesn’t worry financial analysts.
Alex Bumazhny with FitchRatings calls it normal for a casino to trim its workforce shortly after debuting because business is difficult to predict before opening.
SLS Las Vegas also cut buffet hours from every day to three days.
The statement says the company remains optimistic about development at the northern end of the Strip.
