‘Iron Chef,’ cupcake-eating contests at Taste of Georgetown

Next week’s Taste of Georgetown, an annual event organized by the Georgetown Business Improvement District, will include a cupcake-eating contest, and an ”Iron Chef”-like cook off pitting three Georgetown chefs against each other.

Taste of Georgetown, now in its 21st year, is Saturday, Sept. 13 from noon to 5 p.m.

Baked & Wired sponsors the cupcake-eating contest. They’ll be big cupcakes too, weighing almost 4 pounds each. Five contestants, selected though a social media contest, will have three minutes to eat as many of the giant cupcakes that they can.

The Georgetown Chefs Showdown will include chef Girard Pangaud of Malmaison, chef Kristy Cleaveland of Degrees at The Ritz Carlton, and chef Mel Kurtz of Paolo’s. There will be the mandatory “secret ingredient,” and the chefs will be assisted by teams of home cooks.

Live music includes Justin Trawick and the Common Good, Letitia Van Sant & the Bonafides and Human Country Jukebox.

About three dozen restaurants are also taking part in this year’s Taste of Georgetown. The event will be held this year on K Street, between Wisconsin Avenue and Thomas Jefferson Street.
