WARM SPRINGS, Va. (AP) — The U.S. Department of Agriculture has settled allegations of storage tank violations at the Lake Moomaw Marina Store in Warm Springs.
The settlement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency includes a $14,143 civil penalty. The USDA also will conduct monthly and yearly inspections of leak detection equipment on an underground storage tank at the store.
The EPA says in a news release that the 8,000-gallon fiberglass reinforced plastic tank is used to store gasoline.
The EPA had alleged that the Department of Agriculture didn’t conduct release detection for several months. The EPA also said the department didn’t test the leak detection system annually. Both are violations of federal and Virginia underground storage tank regulations.
The department didn’t admit liability for the alleged violations.
