ARLINGTON, Va — A special mission to deliver toys to areas hit hard by Superstorm Sandy stopped at Reagan National Airport Monday afternoon to pick up additional donations.
The Blue Angels arrived in a C-130 cargo plane, dubbed Fat Albert, to load presents that will go to kids in New York and New Jersey.
Marines, "Santa" and other volunteers helped load the donated gifts.
Organizers say $700,000 worth of toy donations are being delivered to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey for distribution.
"Sandy threw a whole new dimension into this year's Toys for Tots campaign," says Lt. Gen. Pete Osman, president of the Toys for Tots Foundation.
"I think it sends a message to those folks that have been affected that the American people care," he says.
