W.V. man with gun in bag stopped at Reagan airport

WASHINGTON – A West Virginia man has been charged with a misdemeanor for attempting to bring a handgun onto a plane at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

TSA officers detected the gun and an ammunition magazine with six rounds in the Victor, W.V. man’s carry-on bag on Friday, the agency reports. Washington Metropolitan Airports Authority Police responded to the checkpoint, confiscated the gun and cited the man, 49, bound for Detroit.

There were no disruptions to airport operations, TSA reports, and the man was able to catch his scheduled flight.

Firearms are not permitted in carry-on baggage. Some weapons are permitted in checked luggage.
