German confederation delays Olympic bid decision

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) will not decide until next year whether to present either Hamburg or Berlin as candidate cities for the 2024 or 2028 Olympics.

DOSB president Alfons Hoermann tells the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that it is waiting for the outcome of proposed International Olympic Committee reforms, while gaining a better insight into the level of public support for hosting the Olympics in either city.

Hoermann says “the worst thing would be to decide on a city only for its citizens then not to support the project.”

Last year, Munich residents rejected a proposed bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Hoermann says “a second Munich shouldn’t happen to us.”

A decision had been expected at a DOSB gathering in Dresden on Dec. 6.
