WASHINGTON — The letter carrier who was beaten, robbed and bound while on his route in Northeast D.C. may have been targeted, a police report shows.
The postal worker was delivering mail on Webster Street near Hawaii Avenue Tuesday afternoon.
According to the police report, two men wearing ski masks jumped from the back of a van.
One of the attackers pulled a semi-automatic handgun and shouted, “Get in! Get it! Get in!” the report recounts.
It got physical after that, with the attackers shoving the letter carrier into the van.
“You know what we want!” the report quotes the suspects as shouting. “What did you do with the package? What did you take out of the package?”
They bound the carrier with tape and pistol whipped him in the head.
“Imma kill you!” the police report continues. “Tell me where it’s at!”
They proceeded to steal his wallet, keys and credit cards.
Eventually the letter carrier was pushed out of the van near Hawaii Avenue and Clermont Drive Northeast. An ambulance later took him to Howard University Hospital.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service has offered a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the attackers.
