Md. man charged with wielding Taser in attempted sex assault

WASHINGTON – A Maryland man has been charged with trying to sexually assault a woman while armed with a Taser.

D.C. detectives say Paul Mannina, 58 of Ashton, Md., knew his victim, a woman who lives in the 2700 block of Chesapeake Street NW.

Mannina was charged Wednesday with assault with intent to commit first degree sexual assault while armed and burglary while armed in the June 5 attack.

D.C. police say a suspect in the attempted sexual assault has been identified and is in custody in another jurisdiction. Police say the suspect knew the victim.

A name has not been released.

EARLIER – Thursday – 6/6/2013, 4:26 p.m. ET

WASHINGTON – D.C. police are looking for a suspect they say brandished a Taser and tried to sexually assault a woman in the 2700 block of Chesapeake Street NW Wednesday morning.

Police say the man forced his way into the woman’s home around 10 a.m., pulled out a Taser and tried to assault the woman before he left.

D.C. Police Commander George Kucik says the man also had pepper spray and beat up the woman.

The suspect is described as a white man with gray hair, about 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 180 pounds. He appeared to be about 50 years old and was wearing a black T-shirt and blue jeans, and possibly was driving a red car or a red Volvo.
