WASHINGTON - D.C. is making a name for itself as the capital of more than just politics.
This is the second year in a row that D.C. has won this unseemly title, which was based on AshleyMadison.com's findings that D.C. had the most registrations per capita in 2012, with more than 34,000 new members. Austin and Houston, Tex. came in at numbers two and three, respectively.
Ashley Madison founder Noel Biderman said in a press release that he was not surprised by D.C.'s ranking.
"With enormous public attention paid to political cheating scandals this year, including the Gen. Petraeus affair, there was no doubt that Washington residents would be influenced," he said. "Living in D.C., it's crucial to keep up appearances, and therefore adultery has become a way of life for many of the city's most powerful residents."
AshleyMadison.com, which targets married people interested in cheating on their spouse, says the company receives the most new members the day after Valentine's Day.
