Weekend Wakeup Call - Friday, April 6 to Monday, April 8

WASHINGTON - It's not every year that two major spring holidays fall on the same weekend. This year, the beginning of Passover and Good Friday coincide. This means lots of travelers on the roadways, and a welcome break from most major construction projects.

Even without the blossoms, The Cherry Blossom centennial celebration continues and of course, Saturday is National Pillow Fight day!

Virginia Megaprojects on holiday break

There will be no major megaprojects-related lane closures from noon Friday, April 6 through 9:30 a.m. Monday, April 9.

The only related closures will be on Chain Bridge Road/Rt. 123. The left turn lanes into Capitol One Drive will be closed from Friday, April 6 at 9:30 p.m. to Monday, April 8 at 5 a.m.

Also the main entrance to the Capitol One campus will be closed from Dolley Madison Blvd. Scotts Crossing Road is your alternate entrance.

Metro Spring break from weekend track work continues through April 20

Monday I-395 HOV closure

Starting Monday, April 8 through Friday, April 13 HOV lanes will be closed from 9:30 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. between the Pentagon and Springfield.

National Cherry Blossom Festival

Continuing - April 27, 2012. The capital welcomes spring with this annual tradition begun by the gift of 600 trees to the United States from Japan in 1912. Although most of the blossoms are gone, the festivities continue around the mall and tidal basin.

African American Family Celebration at the National Zoo - At this year's multicultural tradition, the Zoo will offer an Easter egg roll/hunt, crafts, live entertainment, a food bazaar, and more family-friendly fun. Talk with Smithsonian scientists, who will share their work with such African animals as the kori bustard, cheetah, gorilla, and gaboon viper.
