WTOP News Welcomes John Wordock as New Business Reporter 2026

Washington, D.C. (January 13, 2026) — WTOP is pleased to announce that veteran journalist John Wordock will join the team as its next business reporter, bringing decades of experience in business journalism, audio storytelling, and multi-platform media strategy to the award-winning newsroom.

Wordock is already a familiar voice to WTOP listeners. In the 2000s, he anchored market updates for the station while serving as Managing Editor of MarketWatch Radio. During his tenure at MarketWatch, Wordock also delivered business reports for leading news stations across the country, including WBZ, WINS, WBBM, KRLD and KCBS.

Beyond business reporting, Wordock brings extensive experience in podcasting and digital media leadership. Most recently, Wordock worked as a media consultant, encouraging organizations to embrace a multimedia approach to storytelling—an approach that aligns closely with WTOP’s evolving business coverage strategy.

“WTOP is setting the pace for the radio industry in our digital world,” Wordock said. “It’s a leader both in Washington and in the country. I look forward to joining its award-winning newsroom and evolving business reporting in the age of social video, YouTube, podcasts, and whatever comes next.”

As part of this evolution, WTOP will expand the scope of its business reporting under Wordock’s leadership. In addition to delivering business reports at :10 and :40 past each hour, Wordock will produce original video content and written articles for WTOP.com and the station’s social media channels. He will also focus on enterprise and exclusive reporting aimed at strengthening WTOP’s leadership on the local business beat.

“Evolution is more important than ever in the news industry. We need to meet our consumers where they are and bring them the stories they need in the formats they want,” said Julia Ziegler, Director of News and Programming at WTOP News. “John brings a wealth of multi-platform experience and business expertise to WTOP, and we can’t wait for news consumers in the DMV to be reintroduced to him.”

Wordock joins the team on January 26.
