Steve Rudin, 7News First Alert Meteorologist:

THIS EVENING:
Areas of Rain, Drizzle
Temperatures: 50s
Winds: Northeast 10-20 mph
This evening brings a chilly and damp start to the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Periods of light to moderate rain will continue, leading to wet roads and slower holiday travel around the beltway and along I-95. Temperatures will hold nearly steady in the 50s, running well below normal for late May. An easterly breeze around 10 mph will add to the raw feel at times. While flooding is not expected, drivers should watch for areas of ponding and reduced visibility during steadier rain. Rainy and breezy

TONIGHT:
Areas of Rain, Drizzle
Lows: 50-55
Winds: Northeast 10-15 mph
Cloudy, cool, and damp overnight with additional showers developing toward daybreak Saturday as another disturbance rides up the coast. Temperatures settle into the lower to middle 50s by early morning. A chilly east breeze continues overnight, adding to the raw feel.

TOMORROW:
Rain, Drizzle and Wind
Highs: 57-62
Winds: Northeast 15-25, Gusts to 30 mph
Not exactly the holiday weekend forecast many were hoping for. Cloudy skies, scattered showers, and periods of light rain continue through much of the day with temperatures held in the upper 50s to lower 60s. An easterly wind at 10 to 15 mph will make it feel even cooler, especially east of Washington and toward the Chesapeake Bay, with gusts reaching 20 to 25 mph at times. A rumble of thunder cannot be ruled out during the afternoon or evening. Overall, not great pool or beach weather around the DMV or Delmarva beaches.

SUNDAY:
AM Showers, Mostly Cloudy
Highs: 67-72
Winds: East 5-10 mph
Sunday may actually turn out to be the best weather day of the long holiday weekend. While a few scattered showers are still possible, rainfall coverage looks lower during the afternoon and early evening. Temperatures recover into the 70s with lighter winds and occasional breaks in the overcast. It will not be a perfect day, but compared to Saturday, conditions look noticeably improved for outdoor plans.

MEMORIAL DAY:
Scattered Showers, Thunder
Highs: 72-77
Winds: Southeast 5-10 mph
Memorial Day brings warmer and more humid conditions back to the area with highs climbing into the middle and upper 70s. A nearby frontal boundary could trigger scattered showers and a few thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening, especially if enough sunshine develops. It will feel more summerlike, but the forecast remains somewhat unsettled with occasional interruptions possible for outdoor ceremonies, cookouts, and travel plans.

LOOKING AHEAD:
Tuesday through Friday trends warmer and more humid across the DMV, with highs generally in the upper 70s to lower 80s. It will not be dry every day, but the pattern looks more unsettled than stormy, with daily chances for scattered showers and perhaps a few afternoon or evening thunderstorms. There should be some dry breaks each day, so this does not look like an all day rain setup. By late week, another front may try to settle south, which could keep shower chances in the forecast while gradually trimming humidity.
