Gusty winds will increase after midnight from west to east. Cold and wind alerts go in to effect starting at 4 a.m. Dangerous cold and damaging winds are expected by early Saturday morning.

Winds: Northwest 20-30 mph with gusts 40-60 mph
Damaging winds and dangerously low wind chills are expected Saturday. Wind alerts and cold alerts are in effect for impactful weather. Wind gusts will range from 40-60 mph all day, which will lead to tree damage and power outages across the D.C. area. Temperatures will also be below freezing for the duration of the weekend. Wind chills could drop as low as 10 degrees below zero, so take the cold seriously. Hypothermia and frostbite are risks with temperatures this low. The wind will slowly decrease Saturday night, but the dangerous cold continues into Sunday.

Winds: Northwest 5-15 mph with gusts to 25 mph
Bitterly cold weather is expected, especially in the morning with sub-zero wind chills likely. Cold alerts will likely be issued by the National Weather Service. Morning breezes will ease during the day with sub-freezing afternoon high temperatures.
