WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny and hot
Highs: 90-95 (records: 89 at Reagan National Airport and 87 at Dulles)
Winds: Southwest 5-15 mph
Wednesday looks even hotter than Tuesday, with highs in the low to middle 90s, generally around 91 to 94 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Southwest winds will stay up during the afternoon, and the air remains fairly dry, which also keeps fire weather concerns in the picture. This is a setup that could challenge or break records for day. Reagan National’s record high for April 15 is 89, and Dulles is 87, so both sites are very much in play. 

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy
Lows: 63-69
Winds: Southwest 5-10 mph
Overnight low temperatures will be closer to our average daytime highs for this time of year, as temperatures fall into the 60s. There is a chance to break a ‘warm’ overnight temperature record. Reagan National’s record warm low for April 16 is 65, and Dulles is 63.

THURSDAY: Partly cloudy and hot
Highs: 90-95 (records: 92 at Reagan National and 91 at Dulles)
Winds: Southwest 5-10 mph
Hot temperatures return Thursday, with highs again reaching the lower to middle 90s. There will be a mix of sun and clouds, and it stays breezy enough during the afternoon to keep the elevated fire weather concern going. Record highs for April 16 will be worth watching closely. Reagan National’s record is 92, and Dulles is 91, so forecast temperatures are right in that range again. Thursday night also stays quite mild, with lows around 70, and that is above the record warm lows for April 17 at both sites. Reagan National’s record warm low for April 17 is 65, while Dulles is 59.

FRIDAY: Partly sunny
Highs: 78-85
Winds: Northwest 5-10 mph
Friday trends a little less extreme, but it still runs well above normal for mid-April. Highs near 88 will keep the warm pattern firmly in place, even if the most intense heat backs off a notch. Skies stay mostly sunny, and the air remains dry enough that it will still feel very pleasant in the shade, despite the warmth. After several days near or above 90, Friday may not seem as impressive at first glance, but it is still a notably warm day for this point in the season. The average high for this time of year remains in the upper 60s.

SATURDAY AND SUNDAY: The weekend starts on a very warm note Saturday, with mostly sunny skies and highs around 90. That keeps the unusual April warmth going for one more day, and it will still feel more like early summer than the middle of spring. By Saturday night, clouds increase and there is a chance of showers. Sunday brings a more noticeable shift, with highs dropping back to the upper 70s and another chance of showers through the day. It will feel much more manageable after several days of record challenging or breaking heat. Even with the cooler air arriving, the weekend will close out a remarkable stretch of warmth across the D.C. area.
