WASHINGTON — J.D. Davis of the Houston Astros broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning to lift his team to a 3-2 win over the Washington Nationals on Friday afternoon in West Palm Beach, Florida.

It was the Spring Training opener for both teams, who share the same complex on Florida’s east coast.

The Astros are looking to defend their World Series title this season, while the Nats are trying to get back to the playoffs for the third-straight season.

The Nats tied it in the top of the fifth on a pair of RBI singles by Chris Dominquez and Jose Marmolejos before Davis homered in the bottom of the frame.

The teams wore the caps of nearby Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Seventeen people were killed there recently when a gunman opened fire inside the school.
