WASHINGTON — The Washington Nationals have traded relief pitcher Tyler Clippard to the Oakland Athletics for infielder Yunel Escobar.
The team announced the move on Wednesday evening.
Escobar had only been with Oakland for four days, having been traded from Tampa Jan. 10. The Nationals will be his fifth team. He batted .258 with 7 home runs and 39 RBI with the Rays last season. He has started 950 games at shortstop since 2008, the most in the majors in that span.
Clippard was 34-24, with 34 saves and a 2.68 ERA, over seven seasons with Washington, including 7-4 with one save last season.
