RICHMOND, Va. — Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, a longtime supporter of Hillary Clinton, will not attend President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration.
McAuliffe told reporters Wednesday that he has other things to do on Jan. 20, and laughed when asked exactly when he scheduled those “other things.”
“I wish him well, I know him well … I’ve known him for 20 years, he’s been a donor to my first campaign for governor,” McAuliffe said of Trump.
McAuliffe said he hopes to be able to work with Trump to eliminate the threat of another round of sequestration cuts this fall and to boost infrastructure.
“I always wish the new president well … I’m glad the Clintons are going and former President Bush is going, former President Carter is going, I think it’s important. This is America where we all come together for the inauguration,” McAuliffe said.
