WASHINGTON — It’s time to step up if you are in possession of one of three unclaimed winning tickets from the historic $1.5 billion Powerball drawing sold in Virginia — including one purchased in the D.C. area.
The Powerball drawing on Jan. 13 was the biggest lottery in history with a staggering $1.58 billion jackpot. More than 700,000 tickets purchased in Virginia won prizes in that drawing alone, including two tickets that each won $1 million, four tickets that each won $100,000 and 20 tickets that each won $50,000.
But now, nearly six months later, three of those $50,000 tickets have gone unclaimed and are set to expire at 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, unless whoever has those tickets comes forward to claim their prizes, according to a news release from the Virginia Lottery.
By law, winning tickets in Virginia expire 180 days after the drawing.
The winning numbers were 4-8-19-27-34, and the Powerball number was 10. Each of these tickets matched four of the first five numbers plus the Powerball number to win $50,000.
The three unclaimed tickets were bought at:
- 7-Eleven, 9402 Richmond Highway, Lorton, Virginia
- La Bodega Supermarket, 6170 Arlington Blvd., Falls Church, Virginia
- Fas Mart, 409 Quillen Avenue, SE, Coeburn, Virginia
Unclaimed Virginia Lottery prizes go to Virginia’s Literary Fund, used solely for educational purposes, such as upgrading technology in schools and teacher retirement funding.
The odds of matching all six numbers to win the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million. The overall odds of winning any Powerball prize are 1 in 25.
