Va. man convicted of stealing Social Security survivors’ benefits

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) _ A Richmond man has been convicted of stealing Social Security survivors’ benefits.

A federal jury in Richmond convicted 58-year-old Marcel Kiza on Tuesday of theft of government property.

According to court records, Kiza claimed to obtain more than $50,000 in benefits for his dead brother’s two children. Trial evidence showed Kiza did not have a dead brother and that he created two identities to fraudulently receive benefits for his own children.

Kiza faces up to 10 years in prison. Sentencing has been set for Jan. 7.
