FRIDAY:
Afternoon clouds with a chance of rain and storms
Highs: 86-91
Winds: West 5-10 mph
Watch out for areas of patchy, dense fog for the morning commute following last night’s rain. Have the sunglasses, as well, with morning sunshine that could cause sun glare. Enjoy the bright start to the day with increasing afternoon clouds expected. Another round of showers and thunderstorms is expected during the afternoon hours; however, today’s storm threat doesn’t look as widespread and/or severe. The Storm Prediction Center has the DMV in the Level 1 out of 5 ‘Marginal’ risk category, so one or two storms could produce damaging wind gusts and heavy downpours. It is trending drier for your Friday night plans with warm and muggy conditions expected.

FRIDAY NIGHT:
Mostly to partly cloudy
Lows: 68-75
Winds: Light & Variable
Mainly dry weather is expected overnight, as temperatures fall into the upper 60s in the suburbs to low 70s in the city. Areas of patchy fog are possible.

SATURDAY:
Partly to mostly cloudy; chance PM rain, storms
Highs: 81-86
Winds: North 5-10 mph
Muggy conditions persist ahead of a cold front that will bring a chance for showers and storms during the afternoon and evening hours, so keep an eye on live radar. Overall, plan for more clouds than sun with highs in the 80s for your Saturday plans. It is trending drier at night for the Alexandria and USA Birthday celebrations and fireworks display.

SUNDAY:
Partly to mostly cloudy
Highs: 83-88
Winds: East 5-10 mph
You’ll feel the change for the second half of the weekend, as less humid air settles into the region. Plan for a mix of sun and clouds and comfortable high temperatures in the 80s. There is a chance for showers over the Shenandoah Valley where the front stalls, so keep that in mind if your weekend plans take you to the mountains.

NEXT WEEK:
Very pleasant weather kicks-off the week, but a building heat wave will bring the returns of high temperatures in the 90s starting Tuesday. Fortunately, this next heat wave won’t be anywhere near as extreme as the last one.
